Welcome

I've just started this brand new blog September 22 2014 as a comprehensive list of toys that are either dangerous or disturbing. Consider it a safety warning to take these toys away from your Children, or just be ghoulish and read through to see how you could have injured yourself mentally or physically as a Child. Please be patient as I add entries, this will be ongoing. Thanks so much for coming by!

Space Jet Spark Gun

What Is It?

It's a Spark Gun called Space Jet likely from Japan from the '50s I believe

What Happened?

Spark Guns (particularly this one) was prone to setting things on fire.

Aftermath?

Not sure, very little info about this one.

Remco Johnny Rebel Cannon

What Is It?

Remco created this "Authentic Civil War Cannon" in 1961 that launches little cannon balls up to 35 feet in the air.

What Happened?

This cannon happened to be extremely unpredictable so with the power to shoot up to 35 feet in the air...one can imagine this was very very dangerous.  Also the "rebel" flag is well offensive as it glorifies the Confederacy.

Aftermath?

I'm assuming these were rather limited as I certainly haven't seen any around.

Kaba Kick

What Is It?

It's a Japanese game invented so that Kids can play Russian Roulette.  You put the gun to your head, pull the trigger...if nothing happens you get points.  If you are kicked in the head by tiny feet...you lose.

What Happened?

I'm sure Parents wouldn't have liked the idea of their Children learning how to play one of the most dangerous games in the world...plus being kicked in the head isn't the nicest feeling.

Aftermath?

No idea, there is very little information about this bizarre toy out there

Wolverine Squeaky Hammer

What Is It?

Marvel released this toy inflatable hammer of Wolverine to tie into the X-Men franchise

What Happened?

Oh my guess is some crazy laughter...obviously a poorly chosen valve place would be the subject of controvery here.

Aftermath?

None that I know of

Bat Masterson Derringer Belt Gun

What Is It?

It's a '50s era belt buckle...and a gun...all in one...because the two things just make sense together

What Happened?

The two things do not make sense together...at least it's not a real gun, but the problem was that the caps can be ignited by friction which can cause serious burns...yowch!  I mean think about where this is gonna burn you.

Aftermath?

None that I can find out about unfortunately but I'm guessing they still don't make 'em today

AK-47 Toy

What Is It?

It's a AK-47 replica so kids have something to point at others shouting "pew pew"

What Happened?

In 2013, 13 year old Andy Lopez was playing with his AK-47 replica and a Police Officer asked Andy to drop his weapon (believing it to be real).  For some reason Andy did not drop it, and the Officer then shot Andy 7 times (in a matter of 6 seconds) killing him instantly.

Aftermath?

Strict enforcement that all toy guns have an orange tip or be brightly colored.

Austin Magic Pistol

What Is This?

Its a fun time pistol from the 1950s to shoot your Friends with ping pong balls

What Went Wrong?

In order to propel the balls, one had to use magic crystals & water (or saliva).  Magic crystals just happen to be calcium carbide (which is extremely explosive when mixed with water).  Let's just say once you see this gun in action...you'll know why Friends won't play with you and your gun a second time.  Link to a video of this thing in action below:

Austin Magic Pistol in action

Aftermath?

It was considered so high powered that it was taken off the market very quickly
